Indian Premier League (IPL) founder Lalit Modi has praised the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) decision to enforce stricter rules for IPL players, stating it is a positive step towards safeguarding the league’s integrity. Modi commended the BCCI and its Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU) for addressing security threats and honey-trapping concerns, expressing satisfaction with the board’s proactive stance in response to potential dangers faced by players and the tournament.

Modi emphasized the importance of the BCCI’s actions, highlighting that the move aligns with the fundamental principles of the IPL and signifies progress in the right direction. He reiterated his previous warnings about the risks associated with certain activities and expressed contentment that the BCCI and the ACSU are taking decisive measures, emphasizing the significance of such actions for the future of the sport.

Riyan Parag, the captain of Rajasthan Royals, was recently spotted vaping in the dressing room during a match against Punjab Kings in New Chandigarh. In response, the BCCI has adopted a strict stance, warning that individuals engaging in such behavior could face consequences under the relevant legal framework. The board issued a comprehensive advisory to all 10 IPL franchises, cautioning them about the potential threats of targeted honey-trapping incidents during the tournament.

The BCCI’s directive includes plans for unannounced “surprise checks” to ensure strict adherence to the league’s regulations and operational guidelines. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia emphasized the importance of maintaining strict protocols, prohibiting unauthorized individuals from entering a player’s room without prior approval and the team manager’s knowledge. The board aims to enhance transparency and bolster security measures for IPL players, with plans to implement stricter regulations in the near future to enhance safety and protect cricketers throughout the league.
