Lisa Keightley has signed a new contract with Sydney Thunder, committing to stay on as head coach for the next two seasons until the end of WBBL 13. Keightley, who currently coaches Mumbai Indians in the WPL and MI London in The Hundred, has achieved 17 wins and led the team to two finals series during her three seasons in charge.
With a cricket career that includes nine Tests, 82 ODIs, and one T20 match, Keightley is highly respected in NSW and Australian women’s cricket circles. She has an impressive coaching record, having led Australia Women and England Women, taken the Perth Scorchers to two WBBL Finals, and guided the Northern Superchargers to a Women’s Hundred title.
Looking ahead to WBBL|12, Keightley is optimistic about Thunder’s chances of returning to top form after a disappointing previous season. Expressing her excitement about the future, she praised the team’s talent, highlighting the performances of players like Phoebe Litchfield, Georgia Voll, and Tahlia Wilson.
Sydney Thunder General Manager Trent Copeland expressed delight at Keightley’s decision to continue with the club, emphasizing her status as a cricket legend. Copeland acknowledged Keightley’s global appeal as a coach but underlined her commitment to Thunder, citing her invaluable contributions to the team’s success.
