The Lok Sabha faced a second adjournment on Monday until 4 p.m. due to a disagreement involving Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi discussing alleged Chinese aggression along the Line of Actual Control in Ladakh in 2020. Tensions rose in the lower house of Parliament as the Congress and BJP clashed over an unpublished book by former Army Chief General Manoj Mukund Naravane on the India-China Doklam standoff in 2020.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh objected to Gandhi’s remarks, emphasizing the lack of authenticity in his claims and urging Speaker Om Birla to prevent further discussion on the issue. Despite the chaos, Gandhi persisted in addressing the Ladakh standoff, citing national security concerns. Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju questioned the value of tarnishing the country’s image and stressed the importance of unity for national interests.
Amidst the uproar, Rijiju criticized Gandhi for discussing unverified information and accused him of attempting to discredit the Indian Army. The Speaker eventually adjourned the House till 4 p.m. as the disruptions continued. Earlier in the day, Gandhi, during the Opposition’s response to the President’s address, raised points from an unverified book regarding the 2020 India-China border standoff, leading to interruptions from several ministers.
