The Lok Sabha session on Monday was adjourned until noon due to Opposition protests regarding the use of force on demonstrators during the Parliament March on July 20. Despite requests from Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to proceed with the Question Hour, the Opposition persisted with slogans, seeking an apology from the government for the police’s actions. Subsequently, the House was adjourned.

Earlier, Opposition MPs in both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha submitted notices for adjournment motion, calling for an immediate discussion on what they termed as the excessive force used by Delhi Police and security personnel on protesting students at Jantar Mantar on July 20. This followed the ‘Sansad Chalo’ protest in New Delhi, organized by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) to protest NEET paper leaks and other exam irregularities, which turned violent, leading to clashes and injuries.

The protesters had demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, who resigned on July 25. Meanwhile, the Central government plans to introduce the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026, in Parliament to strengthen laws against paper leaks. Opposition MPs have raised doubts about the effectiveness of the proposed legislation, emphasizing the need for accountability in handling exam malpractices and past paper leak cases.
