Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla led a high-level review meeting in Kota following the deaths of expectant mothers at the Medical College Hospital. The meeting, held at the CAD Auditorium, included officials like Medical Department Principal Secretary Gayatri Rathore and District Collector Piyush Samariya. Birla emphasized a zero-tolerance policy towards medical negligence and urged accountability for those responsible.
Birla examined the inquiry team’s findings from Jaipur and reviewed the corrective actions taken thus far. He labeled the maternal deaths as a highly sensitive issue and stressed the need for stringent Standard Operating Procedures to prevent future occurrences. Additionally, Birla announced the forthcoming visit of experts from AIIMS Delhi and other central medical institutions to assess hospitals in the Kota-Bundi region.
The expert panel’s mandate includes investigating infection causes in operating theaters, evaluating surgical practices, and scrutinizing hospital infrastructure and management. Following the inspection, the team will compile a comprehensive report and propose Standard Operating Procedures to rectify identified deficiencies. Birla also urged medical practitioners to exercise utmost caution during surgical interventions.
To ensure comprehensive oversight, Birla instructed the Kota Divisional Commissioner to establish a committee to evaluate all government hospitals in the district. The committee’s responsibilities encompass assessing medical resources, sanitation standards, nursing care, emergency provisions, and overall hospital administration. It will devise a roadmap to address deficiencies and enhance healthcare services.
Emphasizing the critical nature of public trust in government healthcare facilities, Birla directed officials to bolster hospital sanitation, enhance nursing and emergency services, and uphold high standards of patient care. Stringent measures were mandated against negligent staff to improve medical services and maintain public confidence in government healthcare institutions.
