Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla recently led a high-level meeting to assess the development of the Kota-Bundi Greenfield Airport. The meeting, held at the Parliament House complex, involved officials from the Airports Authority of India and various other departments. Construction of the airport is on track, with plans for aircraft operations to begin by October 2027 and commercial services by December 2027.
Officials shared that the airport, spanning 1,088 acres, will boast a 3.2-km runway suitable for large aircraft. It is designed to handle around 2 million passengers annually and will offer modern aviation facilities. Speaker Birla stressed the importance of providing full immigration services at the Kota airport to facilitate international travel without relying on major hubs like Delhi or Mumbai.
The project aims to enhance economic activity in the Hadoti region, promoting trade, tourism, investment, and industry. It is expected to elevate regional development and improve connectivity for Kota-Bundi, fostering both national and international links. Authorities are exploring the establishment of an MRO facility near the airport to spur aviation-related industrial growth and create job opportunities in the area.
