The Lokayukta Police in Jabalpur carried out two successful trap operations in Madhya Pradesh’s Seoni district to tackle administrative corruption. In the first operation, Acting Assistant Sub-Inspector Dinesh Raghuvanshi was caught red-handed accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 at Kotwali Police Station in Seoni. This action was conducted under the supervision of Director General of Police Yogesh Deshmukh and Deputy Inspector General of Police Manoj Singh.
Anjulata Patle, the Superintendent of Police for Jabalpur Lokayukta, mentioned that the case stemmed from a complaint filed by Nandkishore Chaurasia of Chhitapar village. Chaurasia had reported a fraud case involving his son, Abhishek Chaurasia, who was deceived with promises of a government job and a vehicle contract. Raghuvanshi, the investigating officer for this case, allegedly demanded a bribe to progress with the matter.
In a separate operation on the same day, the Lokayukta team apprehended Arun Kumar Kumre, an Assistant Grade three employee at the Block Development Officer office in Dhanora, for accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000. The complaint against Kumre was lodged by Devendra Kumar Sirsam, a peon at Government Higher Secondary School in Sunwara. Sirsam claimed that the clerk demanded money to process and release his subsistence allowance during a fourteen-month suspension period, amounting to around Rs 1,65,000.
These operations reflect the Lokayukta unit’s concerted efforts to address grievances of citizens exploited by officials in the police and development departments. Following the arrests, legal actions have been initiated against Raghuvanshi and Kumre under the relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
