The Lokpal of India has rejected a complaint accusing former Union Minister Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti of amassing disproportionate assets, citing that the allegations were baseless. The anti-corruption body stated that the rise in Jyoti’s assets from 2014 to 2024 was adequately explained through legal income sources. The complaint highlighted a significant increase in Jyoti’s assets based on election affidavits, but the Lokpal found the explanations provided by Jyoti to be valid and supported by evidence.
The Lokpal emphasized that the complainant failed to consider the difference between taxable and non-taxable income, including parliamentary allowances exempted under the Income Tax Act. It noted that the funds credited to Jyoti’s parliamentary bank account during 2014–2019 were verifiable and matched the bank statements. Dismissing claims of benami properties, illegal mining, and extortion, the Lokpal deemed them unsubstantiated and politically motivated.
The anti-corruption body labeled the complaint as frivolous and vexatious, granting Jyoti the liberty to take legal action against the complainant. Jyoti was given permission to pursue appropriate measures against the complainant for filing what the Lokpal described as another baseless complaint.
