A low-pressure area is anticipated to develop over the Bay of Bengal on Saturday, as per the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Chennai. This formation is linked to an upper-air cyclonic circulation in the east-central Indian Ocean and southeast Bay of Bengal, which is forecasted to strengthen into a low-pressure system.
The weather department has indicated that the atmospheric conditions are conducive for the system’s formation. While no immediate heavy rainfall warning has been issued, meteorologists are closely observing the evolving weather situation over the Bay, as these systems can impact rainfall and wind patterns along the coastal areas of Tamil Nadu in the upcoming days.
In the meantime, several districts in Tamil Nadu are set to encounter foggy conditions. Light fog is expected in at least 13 districts, including Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, and others, on Friday. The RMC has also predicted moderate fog in specific districts on Saturday morning, urging motorists to be cautious due to potentially reduced visibility.
Temperatures are projected to gradually rise across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal in the next 24 hours. The weather department has highlighted that maximum temperatures might see a slight increase, especially in the interior districts. Residents are advised to stay hydrated and avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight during peak afternoon hours.
Weather officials have emphasized that further updates will be provided as the situation over the Bay of Bengal becomes clearer. Fishermen and coastal residents are advised to stay informed about official advisories regarding the possible formation of the low-pressure area. Although the formation of such systems over the Bay of Bengal at this time is not unusual, its intensity and trajectory will determine its impact on Tamil Nadu and neighboring areas.
