In response to the recent terrorist attack in Anantnag town that claimed the life of a policeman, Jammu and Kashmir Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha led a high-level meeting at Lok Bhavan in Srinagar to assess the security situation and the ongoing Amarnath Yatra. The meeting, attended by heads of intelligence and security agencies, aimed to brief the Lt. Governor on the incident and the status of the Amarnath Yatra post the attack.

The meeting, which commenced at 11 a.m., followed the killing of a policeman in a terror strike in Anantnag’s Lal Chowk area the previous day. Despite the unfortunate incident, the Amarnath Yatra remained suspended due to adverse weather conditions in Jammu and Kashmir. Notably, head constable Ashiq Hussain was fatally shot by terrorists at close range in Anantnag’s Lal Chowk area.

In a proactive move against terrorists and their supporters, the J&K Police detained over 3,000 overground workers (OGWs) of terrorists from various districts in the Valley. The Anantnag terror attack was claimed by The Resistance Front (TRF), an offshoot of the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) responsible for similar attacks since 2019. Lt. Governor Sinha, while denouncing the attack, assured that those behind the policeman’s killing would face justice soon.

Security forces have launched an extensive search operation to locate the attackers, with the police circulating a photo of the terrorist and urging the public to provide any information. A tribute ceremony was held at the district police lines in Anantnag to honor head constable Ashiq Hussain Qureshi, with a large turnout at his funeral in Beerwah. Numerous locals visited the cop’s family to offer condolences during this difficult time.
