Amidst the controversy surrounding Sanjay Dutt and Nora Fatehi’s recent track “Sarke Chunar” from “KD – The Devil,” lyricist Rakeeb Alam addressed the issue. He clarified that he did not write the lyrics for the contentious track. Rakeeb mentioned that although he had penned five songs for the movie, he declined to write this particular song as requested by the director.
When asked to provide a word-for-word translation of the Kannada track, Rakeeb refused, insisting on writing the lyrics according to his own artistic sensibilities. Despite his refusal, the director sought his assistance in translating the song line by line. Upon learning about the backlash the song faced, Rakeeb promptly requested the director to remove it from YouTube.
Following the removal of the controversial song, the director requested Rakeeb to compose new lyrics for the track, which he did. Rakeeb mentioned that the new song, along with an apology note, will be released soon. Emphasizing his commitment to crafting meaningful and clean lyrics, Rakeeb highlighted the pressures faced by writers and singers to create viral content on social media.
The track “Sarke Chunar” garnered criticism for its objectionable lyrics and suggestive choreography, leading to its removal from YouTube. The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) issued a notice regarding the alleged use of objectionable and double-meaning lyrics in the song. Additionally, advocate and social activist Vineet Jindal lodged a complaint with the cyber cell of the Delhi Police, urging legal action against the track’s creators.
