Bhopal recently hosted the Madhya Pradesh Startup Summit and Ecosystem Awards 2026 at Ravindra Bhavan, where the state revealed plans to increase its current 6,500 startups to 10,000 in the next 18 months. This initiative underscores Madhya Pradesh’s growing significance in India’s entrepreneurial landscape. Principal Secretary (Industry) of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise (MSME), Raghvendra Kumar Singh, emphasized that the summit aimed to align policy, administration, and entrepreneurship for future growth, rather than just reflecting on past achievements. India stands as the world’s third-largest startup ecosystem, boasting nearly 159,000 registered startups under the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, over 100 unicorns, and providing 16 lakh direct jobs.
Madhya Pradesh is already surpassing national averages, with close to 3,100 women-led ventures, and is committed to further expansion under the Madhya Pradesh Startup Policy, 2025. The state’s policy offers substantial financial and infrastructural support, including a Rs 100 crore seed capital fund, grants up to Rs 30 lakh, interest subsidies, and subsistence allowances. Notably, women-led startups make up 47 percent of the state’s ecosystem, which is three times higher than the national average. The state also extends inclusive measures to SC/ST entrepreneurs, incubation support, and digital infrastructure. Principal Secretary Singh highlighted that these grants are strategic economic initiatives aimed at integrating entrepreneurship into the mainstream, citing successful ventures in districts like Narmadapuram, Vidisha, and Harda.
Chief Minister Mohan Yadav praised India’s tradition of innovation, recalling the groundbreaking work of Sir Jagdish Chandra Bose in areas like plant sensitivity, microwaves, and semiconductors. He commended Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s efforts in promoting research and entrepreneurship, including initiatives launched from Indore in 2022. Chief Minister Yadav showcased a local innovation where a startup has developed a cost-effective machine capable of harvesting one acre of crops for just Rs 10 in an hour, addressing agricultural and environmental challenges. Expressing confidence, the Chief Minister declared that India, currently the fourth-largest economy, is on track to rise to the third position and eventually become the top economy globally. The summit reaffirmed Madhya Pradesh’s standing as a top state in India’s startup rankings, with a vision to foster inclusive, future-oriented growth and contribute to India’s journey towards becoming a global economic powerhouse.
