Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma met in Guwahati to finalize an agreement on exchanging wild animals between their states. The pact aims to enhance biodiversity by reintroducing species that have become extinct in certain regions. As part of the deal, Assam will relocate 50 wild water buffaloes to Madhya Pradesh over the next three years in phased groups.
A pair of one-horned rhinoceroses and three king cobras will also be sent to Madhya Pradesh, initially housed at Van Vihar National Park in Bhopal for acclimatization and public display. Meanwhile, the wild buffaloes will be reintroduced to their original habitat at Kanha Tiger Reserve. In return, Madhya Pradesh will send Assam a pair of tigers and six mugger crocodiles to diversify its wildlife population.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Yadav shared the news on social media, highlighting the state’s commitment to wildlife conservation. He mentioned the reintroduction of the extinct wild buffalo species and the planned translocation of various animals from Assam. This initiative follows the successful reintroduction of cheetahs in Kuno National Park, showcasing the state’s dedication to preserving its diverse wildlife.
