Bhopal city and its surroundings in Madhya Pradesh experienced overnight rains following a ten-day break in the monsoon. The India Meteorological Department’s Bhopal center has issued a warning for moderate thunderstorms with lightning and moderate rainfall in various districts of the state. Towns like Neemuch, Mandsaur, Ujjain, and others are expected to face such weather conditions.
Moderate rainfalls ranging from 5-15 mm per hour are likely, with a 30-60% probability of cloud to ground lightning. Additionally, Vidisha, Damoh, Satna, and other areas may experience light thunderstorms with lightning and rain, with a lower probability of lightning.
The recent spell of rain comes as a relief amidst existing rainfall shortages in Madhya Pradesh. The state has encountered a rainfall deficit of about 17% so far this season, with no heavy rainfall in the region for nearly 12 days, leading to drought-like situations in some places.
Residents are advised to be cautious due to potential waterlogging, traffic disruptions, and lightning hazards. Weather experts suggest avoiding flooded areas, standing crops, and tall trees during thunderstorms. Motorists are urged to drive carefully in reduced visibility, while farmers should secure their crops during heavy downpours.
