Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav kicked off the Khelo MP Youth Games at the Water Sports Academy, Boat Club on Upper Lake in Bhopal. The 19-day event, likened to the state’s own ‘Olympics’, will host competitions in 28 sports disciplines and will run until January 31.
The opening ceremony showcased a water projection, a laser show, fireworks, and cultural performances. Addressing a crowd of ministers, MLAs, BJP leaders, and government officials, Yadav emphasized the significance of the Games in reflecting the evolving times in Madhya Pradesh. He highlighted the state’s emergence as a sports hub and the government’s commitment to supporting athletes.
Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Vishwas Sarang noted that these Games are a pioneering effort in the country, organized through collaboration between the Sports Department and recognized sports federations. The event will feature a mix of traditional Indian games like pittu and tug-of-war alongside popular sports such as cricket. Prize money has been set at Rs 31,000 for first place, Rs 21,000 for second, and Rs 11,000 for third.
Competitions will be conducted at both district and state levels, with athletes from 313 development blocks participating at the district level and teams from 10 divisions competing at the state level. Various venues have been allocated for different sports across cities like Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior, Ujjain, Jabalpur, Rewa, Narmadapuram, Sagar, and more.
