Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav criticized the Congress party for neglecting farmers during its 55-year rule in the state. He highlighted that the Congress governments did not purchase grain or establish a proper wheat procurement system despite repeated demands. In contrast, Yadav pointed out his government’s increased wheat procurement from 75 lakh to 100 lakh metric tons.
Addressing a gathering after the “Bhoomi Poojan” of the Indore-Pithampur Economic Corridor, Chief Minister Yadav emphasized his administration’s commitment to farmers. He compared historical wheat prices, noting the significant rise from Rs 80-100 per quintal in 1956 to the current Rs 2,625 per quintal, attributing the change to collective efforts.
Yadav announced additional support for farmers cultivating Urad (black gram) with a Rs 600 bonus, a measure not offered by previous governments. He reiterated the promise to increase wheat procurement prices to Rs 2,700 per quintal by 2028 as per the party’s manifesto. The Chief Minister also outlined plans for agricultural diversification and improved electricity supply for farmers.
