Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced efforts to secure a Geographical Indication (GI) tag for Barwani’s renowned red chilli during the ‘Balram Krishi Mahotsav.’ He emphasized the importance of modern farming techniques and technology adoption to enhance agricultural productivity and income. Yadav highlighted Barwani’s agricultural success and encouraged young farmers to embrace innovation and government support.
The Chief Minister disclosed a substantial investment of around Rs 5,000 crore in irrigation projects, including schemes like Sendhwa, Niwali, Pati, and Nagalwadi lift irrigation, benefiting over 1.21 lakh hectares of farmland. He reassured farmers about the availability of fertilizers and seeds, urging them to disregard misinformation. Additionally, a Model Seed Production Centre spanning 50 acres is being established in Barwani.
Yadav praised Barwani’s growing reputation for cotton, banana, and chilli cultivation nationwide. He highlighted upcoming projects like the ‘PM MITRA’ textile park in Dhar district to support cotton growers and the Mega Food Processing Cluster in Rajpur to aid banana farmers with improved processing and marketing facilities. The government’s initiatives also include increased compensation for rural land acquisitions and plans for rail connectivity in Barwani to boost economic development.
