Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav chaired a meeting to assess the state’s readiness for possible low rainfall and urged departments to collaborate for farmers’ assistance. Viewing scanty rainfall as an opportunity for improved planning and farming techniques, Yadav emphasized the importance of coordinated efforts to support agriculture. He advised farmers to cultivate water-efficient crops like millets and pulses, ensuring good yields even with limited rainfall.
Officials were directed to raise awareness among farmers about planting crops that require less water and mature early. The Chief Minister stressed the need for adequate soil moisture before commencing sowing and recommended promoting moisture conservation and modern farming practices. Yadav reaffirmed the government’s commitment to farmers’ welfare and sustainable agricultural production, outlining plans for the next two years.
Under the AMRUT 2.0 scheme, urban areas will identify alternative water sources, while rural regions will launch a 90-day campaign to review and repair water supply schemes. Efforts will focus on restoring traditional water bodies, groundwater recharge projects, and canal maintenance to ensure efficient irrigation. District-wise contingency crop plans, water-efficient farming methods, and enhanced crop insurance coverage are among the measures planned to support farmers.
