The Madhya Pradesh Congress has announced a ‘Nyay Yatra’ (March for Justice) scheduled for January 11 in response to the contaminated water crisis in Indore’s Bhagirathpura area. The party is demanding accountability from the BJP government, emphasizing the need for action regarding the undisclosed number of fatalities.
State Congress president Jitu Patwari criticized the BJP-led administration for allegedly downplaying the death toll and obstructing access to the affected region. Patwari highlighted that the situation has resulted in 30 reported deaths due to contaminated water supplied by the municipal corporation.
The Nyay Yatra, starting from Bada Ganpati Chouraha and concluding at the statue of Ahilya Bai Holkar at Rajwada, aims to address the grievances of the deceased families and honor them in every ward of the city. Patwari condemned the incident as a deliberate act of harm, advocating for legal action against those responsible for the crisis.
The crisis, which began around December 21-25, 2025, has brought to light infrastructure deficiencies in Indore, known as India’s cleanest city. The planned march seeks to garner public support, urging residents to participate in demanding transparency and justice amidst escalating political tensions.
