Madhya Pradesh Congress President, Jitu Patwari, criticized the state government for failing farmers, calling the “Year of Farmer Welfare” the “Year of Farmer Exploitation.” Patwari highlighted various crises faced by farmers, including fertiliser shortages and unfulfilled promises on support prices. He announced upcoming protests in support of distressed farmers, with plans for demonstrations and fasting in Bhopal.
Patwari raised concerns about the government’s handling of fertiliser shortages, leading to long queues for farmers. He also cited a Comptroller and Auditor General report revealing underutilized funds meant for farmers, questioning the government’s commitment. The shortage of gunny bags for wheat procurement was another issue Patwari addressed, criticizing the government’s inadequate requisition of bags.
The Congress leader emphasized the repeated delays in wheat procurement dates, forcing farmers to sell at low prices and default on loans. He accused the government of reneging on promises of support prices for various crops, leading to farmer distress. Patwari also criticized Chief Minister Mohan Yadav for allegedly neglecting the state’s farmers while focusing on political activities in Bengal.
