The Madhya Pradesh government, led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has declared that this year’s Holi festival in the state will focus on environmental conservation and social unity. Citizens are encouraged to observe Holi with a sense of togetherness, setting aside differences and embracing joy. The government has suggested using cow-dung logs instead of wood for the traditional Holika Dahan bonfire, emphasizing public cooperation and community involvement.
Efforts will be made to popularize the use of cow-dung logs for Holika Dahan ceremonies, with a call for the adoption of natural and herbal colors, water conservation, and refraining from applying colors to animals and birds. Public Holika Dahan events can be registered at various administrative levels, with a focus on the organizing institution’s details and contact information. Urban local bodies and Panchayati Raj institutions are actively engaged in promoting these eco-friendly practices.
Authorities will monitor public events on the day of Holika Dahan to ensure the use of cow-dung logs instead of wood. Events that exclusively use cow-dung logs will receive certification, and outstanding organizers will be honored with commendation certificates during district-level felicitation ceremonies. District collectors are tasked with overseeing the ‘Clean and Healthy Holi’ campaign’s effective execution, while divisional commissioners will supervise related initiatives.
Holi, a festival traditionally celebrated with colors, gatherings, and rituals, symbolizes the onset of spring and is marked by community festivities and Holika Dahan bonfires. People typically visit loved ones, exchange greetings, and enjoy festive meals during this time, with an increasing trend towards using natural colors and conserving water.
