In response to a viral sting video revealing alleged bribe demands by its personnel in Bhopal, the Madhya Pradesh Lokayukta organization has undertaken a significant administrative reshuffle. Director General Yogesh Deshmukh has ordered the transfer of key Superintendent of Police (SP)-rank officers across divisions. The reshuffle affects senior officers in the Bhopal, Sagar, and Rewa divisions.
Durgesh Kumar Rathore, who previously served as Lokayukta SP in Bhopal, has been moved to the Sagar division. Sunil Patidar, the former SP in Rewa, has taken over as Lokayukta SP in Bhopal. Additionally, Yogeshwar Sharma, the SP in Sagar, has been reassigned to Rewa.
Following a sting operation that captured Lokayukta employees allegedly soliciting bribes to manipulate corruption cases, the organization has faced scrutiny. The video, which garnered widespread attention, has raised concerns about the integrity of the anti-corruption agency.
In a bid to address the situation, the Lokayukta has also taken action against other personnel. Two Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) have been returned to their parent Police Department, with a recommendation for their suspension. Furthermore, head constable Ramdas Kurmi and constable Gaurav Sahu have been suspended, and a proposal for another head constable’s suspension is pending.
The organization has terminated the services of a contractual driver, Amit Vishwakarma. Despite recent successful raids recovering assets from corrupt public servants, the scandal has exposed internal vulnerabilities within the Lokayukta. The reshuffle is seen as an effort to rebuild public trust and ensure the impartial operation of the anti-corruption body.
Durgesh Kumar Rathore, known for his leadership in various operations, brings his expertise to the Sagar division. Sunil Patidar, recognized for his stringent approach, is expected to enhance oversight in the crucial Bhopal unit.
