The Madhya Pradesh government has proposed an increase in the wheat procurement target for the Rabi Marketing Season 2026-27 to the Centre. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav informed that due to the expected surplus in procurement beyond the current 7.8 million metric tonnes target, the state has requested a hike in the quota. The government has ensured a smooth procurement process by addressing challenges and providing sufficient gunny bags, including new jute sacks and recycled options.
The wheat procurement initiative commenced on April 9 in specific regions and expanded statewide from April 15, showing accelerated activity at procurement centers. Farmers are being offered Rs 2,625 per quintal for wheat, comprising the MSP of Rs 2,585 per quintal and an additional Rs 40 per quintal bonus from the state government. This attractive pricing strategy has led to increased farmer participation this season.
As per official data, a notable rise in farmer registrations for wheat procurement under MSP has been observed this year, with 1.904 million farmers registering, an increase of about 300,000 from the previous year. The state has procured 9.51755 million quintals of wheat from 221,455 farmers, with 7.5 million quintals already transported. Payments totaling Rs 1,091.33 crore have been disbursed to 106,055 farmers for their contributions.
Furthermore, 624,235 farmers have reserved slots to sell approximately 26.22 million quintals of wheat, with booking slots open until April 30, 2026. To facilitate this process, the state has established 3,171 procurement centers, each with an enhanced daily slot booking capacity of 2,250 quintals.
