The Madhya Pradesh government is planning to introduce dedicated education on cows in its school curriculum to highlight their cultural, health, and scientific importance. School Education Minister Uday Pratap Singh revealed that specialized schools in Rajgarh and Narsinghpur districts will initially focus on teaching Sanskrit, Vedas, and Yoga. The minister emphasized that learning about cows is essential as they provide energy and inspiration for maintaining good health. These schools are envisioned to serve as sources of inspiration and research centers, blending ancient Indian knowledge with modern education to promote holistic development. The initiative aims to integrate traditional beliefs about the benefits of interacting with cows for physical and mental well-being. This move aligns with the state’s efforts to revive Vedic education and promote cow conservation. However, specific details about the cow-related syllabus are yet to be disclosed. The government plans to establish schools following the Gurukul model, named after Adi Shankaracharya, similar to the Central government-owned Sandipani school for Sanskrit in Indore and Ujjain. Additionally, the state government intends to introduce 3367 courses in Higher Secondary schools to address eighth-grade dropouts. Various vocational training programs, including agriculture trade, have been introduced in schools to enhance employability. The government aims to expand professional education in more schools to increase enrollment and reduce dropout rates. These new institutions will function as modern Gurukuls, offering traditional subjects alongside vocational training. While mainstream science acknowledges the nutritional benefits of cow milk and products, no peer-reviewed studies directly support claims of cows as a source of “energy” or “inspiration” beyond their nutritional value. Traditional Ayurvedic texts and cultural practices, however, emphasize the revered status of cows for their purity and vitality.
