The Madras High Court has issued an interim stay on the release of the Tamil Nadu Teacher Eligibility Test (TNTET) results until July 24. This decision comes following petitions challenging the qualifying marks set for general category candidates. The TNTET notification for recruitment to teaching positions was issued in August last year, with exams held in November.
A total of 92,412 candidates appeared for the Secondary Grade Teacher eligibility test, while 3,31,923 candidates took the Graduate Teacher eligibility exam. Petitioners raised concerns over the delay in result publication and the differing qualifying marks for various candidate categories. They argued for a reduction in the minimum qualifying marks for general category candidates to 50%, citing examples from other states.
The Tamil Nadu government informed the court of its ongoing policy decision regarding the qualifying marks for general category candidates. The court has adjourned the matter until July 24, directing that the results should not be released before then. This interim order will impact over 4.2 lakh candidates awaiting the TNTET results.
