The Maharashtra Legislative Assembly engaged in a heated debate over access to passes for the India vs England T20 World Cup semi-final at the Wankhede Stadium. Members from various parties demanded easier pass distribution, with some suggesting the state government reclaim the stadium from the Mumbai Cricket Association.
Senior BJP leader Sudhir Mungantiwar highlighted the stadium’s history and called for better pass allocation, emphasizing the importance of witnessing England’s defeat on the cricket field. He urged the Revenue Minister to ensure fair distribution, hinting at reclaiming the stadium if necessary.
Minister Ashish Shelar, acknowledging the stadium stands on government land, explained that pass distribution follows an agreement with the Mumbai Cricket Association, the Public Works Department, and the Sports Department. He cautioned against drastic actions, stating that taking over the stadium would not be honorable.
