After introducing the ‘Punyashlok Ahilyadevi Holkar Farmers Crop Loan Waiver Scheme’, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis responded to critics by asserting the government’s commitment to farmer welfare. He emphasized that the decision to waive loans was driven by this goal and not by political considerations.
Fadnavis explained that the scheme included a waiver for loans up to Rs 2 lakh, along with an additional incentive of Rs 50,000 for farmers who had been consistent with their repayments. He clarified that despite initial exclusion criteria, adjustments were made to ensure support for a significant number of farmers who would have otherwise been left out.
The Chief Minister, speaking at an event organized by the BJP Kisan Morcha, highlighted the government’s dedication to farmers and its fulfillment of promises made in the election manifesto. He underscored the importance of maintaining financial discipline while prioritizing farmer welfare, citing historical precedents to support the government’s approach.
Fadnavis expressed gratitude for the opportunity to engage directly with farmers through the event, accepting the honor on behalf of the state Cabinet and acknowledging the contributions of Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Sunetra Pawar.
