The Maharashtra Congress President, Harshwardhan Sapkal, criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for allegedly resorting to undemocratic practices in the Legislative Council (MLC) elections. Sapkal accused the BJP of offering large sums of money to opposition candidates to withdraw their nominations, aiming to ensure uncontested elections.
During a press conference in Buldhana, Sapkal condemned the BJP’s actions, stating that the party is disregarding democratic principles in its pursuit of power. He highlighted the misuse of state resources and financial influence by the ruling Mahayuti coalition to coerce opposition candidates into stepping back from the elections.
Sapkal emphasized the need for clean and fair elections, expressing concern over the BJP’s approach, which he described as driven by a hunger for power. He criticized the BJP for reducing the electoral process to mere horse-trading and warned that such actions pose a threat to the democratic fabric of the country.
