Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde highlighted Maharashtra’s progress in heavy industries, infrastructure, connectivity, skill development, housing, and eco-friendly projects, aiming to boost the state’s economy to $1 trillion. The state is working on a new expressway connecting Mumbai to Surjagarh in Gadchiroli as part of the “Viksit Bharat 2047” vision. Shinde emphasized decentralized growth to benefit rural, tribal, and backward regions, not just major cities.
Moving forward, projects like Samruddhi Mahamarg, metro expansion, Navi Mumbai Airport, industrial corridors, and skill development centers are enhancing employment opportunities. An 85-km greenfield road project will streamline mineral logistics from the Surjagarh mining belt, reducing travel time between Mumbai and Gadchiroli. Infrastructure projects worth around Rs 4 lakh crore are underway in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, including key developments like Atal Setu, Mumbai Coastal Road, and Vadhavan Port.
To address urban congestion, a comprehensive multimodal transport system is being developed to ensure faster commutes across Mumbai. The government aims for a 337-km metro grid to facilitate efficient travel within the city. Initiatives are also underway to double Mumbai’s GDP and establish it as a global fintech hub, while satellite cities like Kalyan, Dombivli, Ambernath, and Badlapur are being transformed into specialized economic zones.
Under the ‘Hinduhridaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Urban Public Welfare Mission’, efforts are being made to make Mumbai slum-free using advanced technology like NETRAM for surveillance and urban planning. Shinde reiterated Maharashtra’s commitment to balanced and inclusive development, connecting industrial centers with tribal areas for overall economic growth and social empowerment.
