The Maharashtra government disclosed to the Legislative Assembly that in 2024, 45,662 women were reported missing, with 30,877 located, and in 2025, 48,278 women went missing, with 36,581 found. Additionally, 11,313 minor girls were reported missing in 2024, and 12,113 in 2025, with 8,475 and 10,295 being traced, respectively.
In response to queries from legislators, the state Home Department, under Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, presented detailed statistics on missing women and children for 2024 and 2025. The data revealed that 4,989 adolescents aged 15 to 18 went missing, mainly from cities like Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Raigad, Nagpur, and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, with 96 percent of them being traced.
The government’s written response highlighted that 13 Operations Muskaan conducted from July 2015 to December 2024 led to the discovery of 41,193 missing minors. The ongoing 14th Operation Muskaan has already located 1,401 minors, including boys and girls.
During 2024-25, a total of 4,514 minors, comprising 1,435 boys and 3,080 girls, were reported missing, out of which 4,455, including 1,409 boys and 3,046 girls, have been found. Chief Minister Fadnavis mentioned the current implementation of “Operation Muskan” from January 20 to February 20, 2026, focusing on reuniting missing women and children with their families.
Police efforts during 2024 and 2025 led to the tracing of 96 girls aged 15-18. The government emphasized safety audits in schools to prevent crimes against children and the establishment of Anti-Human Trafficking Cells in police divisions, along with initiatives like Police Kaka and Police Didi to enhance child safety.
