The Maharashtra government has acknowledged violations in the transfer and redevelopment of a 27-acre land parcel in Kandivali (West) meant for Mathadi workers. Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule revealed that breaches had occurred and announced a thorough investigation into the issue. The government plans to reclaim 26,900 square meters of unconstructed surplus land included in the redevelopment without proper authorization.
Originally designated for the Cloth Market and Shops Board, the land was later transferred to the ‘Vishal Sahyadri Co-operative Housing Society.’ Various portions of the land were allocated to different entities, including the Vishal Society, a Ganesh Temple, and the Rayat Shikshan Sanstha. Violations were found concerning construction deadlines, commercial use, and unauthorized transfers, with some irregularities yet to be rectified.
The Inspector General of Registration in Pune will probe stamp duty irregularities within the next 15 days. Minister Bawankule emphasized the need to address any manipulations at lower administrative levels promptly. Notably, the inclusion of a 26,900 square meter area in the developer’s agreement without prior approval is considered a significant breach, leading to immediate actions to take possession of the land.
Assuring protection for common citizens and Mathadi workers residing in the area, the government plans to convert the land to ‘Freehold’ status to grant ownership rights. In response to concerns raised by local MLA Yogesh Sagar regarding housing for Mathadi workers, Minister Bawankule affirmed the government’s commitment to justice. Discussions are ongoing to potentially allocate the surplus land for housing the workers, ensuring a balance between development interests and the rights of the original Mathadi workers.
