The Maharashtra state government has announced an inquiry into the changed alignment of the Nashik Ring Road project, crucial for the upcoming Kumbh Mela, to be completed within three days. Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule assured the Legislative Assembly that no farmers would face forced land acquisition and that they would be fairly compensated under the law.
The inquiry comes after MLA Vijay Wadettiwar raised concerns in the Assembly, alleging that the Ring Road’s alignment was modified to facilitate land irregularities. The Revenue Minister stated that the reasons for the alteration would be investigated, focusing on potential insider knowledge or ulterior motives of those who acquired land in the area in the past three years.
Responding to the accusations, the Revenue Minister emphasized that if the alignment change was found to favor specific interests, a detailed investigation would be carried out by the Chief Secretary. Additionally, a probe into the allegations against Nashik District Collector Ayush Prasad will be conducted.
Highlighting the significance of the Ring Road for managing the Kumbh Mela, the Revenue Minister assured that farmers would be consulted again, ensuring fair compensation as per the Land Acquisition Act. Any additional support from the government would be positively considered, with no coercion involved.
Local MLA Saroj Ahire, who had protested on the issue earlier, expressed gratitude to the Assembly Speaker for allowing the matter to be discussed in the House.
