Maharashtra NCP(SP) President Shashikant Shinde has shared insights into the split and alleged merger plans within the party in a recent editorial. Shinde highlighted that Ajit Pawar, the late Deputy Chief Minister, was reportedly compelled to leave the original NCP due to perceived threats from “invisible powers.” The decision to merge the two factions was supposedly finalized in the presence of Sharad Pawar, with an agreement to hand over leadership to Ajit Pawar post-merger.
Shinde emphasized the significance of honoring Ajit Pawar’s legacy through the party’s unity and strength. He stressed the importance of setting aside differences and working towards a cohesive NCP. While Shinde’s revelations have stirred controversy, with the NCP (Ajit Pawar faction) expressing skepticism, senior party members have responded with varying perspectives.
Anil Deshmukh, a former Home Minister and senior NCP(SP) leader, acknowledged Shinde’s article but indicated a lack of personal knowledge on the matter. Meanwhile, party spokesperson Suraj Chavan raised concerns about the timing of the merger discussions, questioning the motives behind such revelations. Amid differing opinions within the party, the future direction of the NCP remains uncertain, particularly with Sunetra Pawar’s role coming into focus.
