The Maharashtra government inked agreements with NTPC Limited and Lalitpur Power Generation Company to establish power projects totaling 25,400 MW. This initiative involves an investment of Rs 6,50,000 crore and is anticipated to create 23,500 jobs. Minister of Renewable Energy Atul Save mentioned that the developers will conduct due diligence and on-site surveys to finalize project locations in Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts.
The developers have the option to choose between different reactor types such as Small Modular Reactors, Pressurised Heavy Water Reactors, Light Water Reactors, or Fast Breeder Reactors based on detailed project reports. Maharashtra aligns with the national target of adding 1,00,000 MW of nuclear capacity by 2047, in line with India’s Viksit Bharat centenary goal and its 2070 net-zero emission commitments. The state-run NTPC Limited is set to invest Rs 1,00,000 crore, aiming for a power generation of 7,200 MW and the creation of 5,000 jobs.
Lalitpur Power Generation Company Limited (Bajaj Group) plans to invest Rs 2,00,000 crore in Maharashtra, generating 5,000 MW of power and establishing 3,000 jobs. The total investment in the state is projected to reach Rs 6,50,000 crore, resulting in an estimated power generation of 25,400 MW and the formation of 1,23,500 jobs. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis emphasized the state’s commitment to supporting companies interested in investing in the nuclear power generation sector within Maharashtra, aiming to contribute to India’s energy goals.
