Maharashtra Assembly Speaker Rahul Narvekar has instructed the state government to address the reported threats against Congress MLA Sajid Khan Pathan by members of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. The issue was raised by Congress MLA Vijay Wadettiwar during a Legislative Assembly session. Wadettiwar highlighted that Pathan received death threats and an extortion demand of Rs 10 crore from the gang.
Narvekar emphasized the seriousness of the situation and urged immediate action to ensure the security of the MLA. The threats, made by a person associated with the gang, included demands for a ransom and warnings of fatal consequences if not met. Despite Pathan’s lack of involvement in criminal activities, he was targeted by the gang, raising concerns about the safety of public representatives in the state.
Pathan, who received the threats, revealed details of the intimidating phone call he received from a member of the gang. The caller, claiming affiliation with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, threatened Pathan with violence if the demanded sum was not paid. Pathan promptly reported the incident to the authorities, including the Chief Minister, expressing disappointment at not being allowed to address the issue in the Assembly.
