A youth from Maharashtra’s Jalna district, identified as Uddhav Bhagwan Kapse, has been apprehended for creating and sharing an objectionable video on social media. The video, which defamed Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and contained misleading information about a plane crash involving former Deputy CM Ajit Pawar, amassed around 1.5 lakh views before being taken down. Kapse, a resident of Buttegaon village, confessed during interrogation to producing the video using AI tools.
Senior officials instructed the Cyber Cell to take action after the video went viral. The police removed the video and lodged an FIR against an unknown person for disseminating false and offensive content. Kapse, who has completed Class 10 education and resides with his parents, was arrested by a police team from Buttegaon village. He was presented before a Bandra court and remanded to three days of police custody.
Investigations are ongoing to determine whether Kapse acted independently or had assistance. Notably, earlier in March, CM Devendra Fadnavis had criticized a zero FIR filed in Bengaluru regarding the plane crash that claimed the life of Ajit Pawar, alleging it was a ploy by the Congress-led Karnataka government to tarnish Maharashtra’s image.
