The main suspect in the murder of 17-year-old Surya Pratap Chauhan was shot dead in a police encounter in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. The incident brought a dramatic turn to a case that had sparked widespread outrage and protests in the region. Surya’s mother expressed satisfaction with the police action, stating, “We demanded justice, and we have received it through the encounter.”
According to officials, the prime accused, Asad, who had a reward of Rs 50,000 on his arrest, was involved in the fatal stabbing of Surya in the Khoda police station area. Surya was attacked with a knife on May 28 and succumbed to his injuries despite medical efforts. Following the murder, the area witnessed public anger and tension, with demands for swift action against the accused.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Dhaval Jaiswal mentioned that three of the accused were arrested immediately after the incident, while Asad remained at large. The encounter occurred during a joint operation by the Khoda and Indirapuram police teams. Asad, who was attempting to flee after collecting money, was spotted on a motorcycle with an accomplice. When the police tried to stop him, Asad allegedly opened fire, leading to the exchange of gunfire that resulted in his death.
The killing of the main accused is considered a significant breakthrough in the high-profile murder case that had triggered calls for justice and prompt police intervention in Ghaziabad.
