Acting under a ‘zero tolerance’ policy and as per directives from the Union Home Ministry, a joint team comprising the district administration, police, and Border Security Force (BSF) launched a significant operation against alleged illegal constructions within 15 kilometers of the India-Pakistan border in Rajasthan’s Barmer district.
The operation targeted border villages falling under the Gadra Road and Chauhatan subdivisions in Barmer district. Authorities had previously surveyed the structures and issued notices instructing occupants to dismantle the alleged illegal constructions by June 18.
Following non-compliance after the deadline, the district administration, police, and BSF jointly initiated a demolition and removal drive. The operation covered villages like Hamirani, Malana, Kerkori, Chauhatan, Bhalgaon, and Demba, where officials verified the legality of permanent structures.
The action, conducted in line with security directives and legal procedures, aimed at ensuring compliance with regulations in strategically significant border zones. However, the operation has faced criticism from some local residents and public representatives who questioned the timing and approach of the action.
