In a significant crackdown on narcotics smuggling in Bihar, authorities in East Champaran district intercepted a car on NH-27, seizing 10.540 kilograms of opium valued at nearly Rs 2 crore. Four individuals linked to an interstate drug trafficking network were apprehended during the operation. The STF and local police acted on a tip-off about a large opium consignment being transported from Jharkhand to Bihar.
A joint team of the STF and Dumariyaghat police conducted thorough vehicle checks near the Narsingh Baba Temple on NH-27, leading to the discovery of the opium hidden in a secret compartment inside a white car. The three occupants of the vehicle, identified as Sajan Kumar Yadav, Munna Kumar Yadav, and Anuj Kumar Sao, were promptly arrested.
The arrested individuals provided information about the alleged supplier, resulting in the apprehension of Jitendra Chaudhary from East Champaran. Chaudhary was reportedly responsible for the opium supply to the smugglers. Authorities revealed that the trafficking gang had been operating between Jharkhand and Bihar for an extended period.
All four accused have been booked under relevant sections of the NDPS Act at Dumariyaghat police station. The police, based on STF inputs, are investigating the network’s connections, supply chain, and accomplices. Efforts are underway to dismantle the entire interstate drug racket, with a commitment from the district administration to combat the narcotics trade effectively.
