A significant reorganization occurred in the West Bengal police administration as the Suvendu Adhikari government issued transfer notifications for 179 IPS officers. This reshuffle included about 12 Superintendents of Police, with changes like the removal of Surya Pratap Yadav as the Birbhum district SP and the promotion of Jalpaiguri SP Amarnath K. to DIG of the Intelligence Bureau of North Bengal.
The administrative restructuring marked the first major move by the Suvendu Adhikari government since assuming power in the state. Notable changes included the appointment of Vaibhav Tiwari as Joint CP (Armed Police) of Kolkata Police, and the transfer of officers like Barasat Police District Superintendent Pushpa to East Burdwan, and Bankura SP Saumaditya Bhattacharya to Malda Special Task Force (STF).
Among the reshuffling, Diamond Harbour Police District SP Ishani Pal assumed the role of DCP of South-West Kolkata Police, while Bengal STF DIG Sudhir Kumar Neelakantam was appointed as Inspector General of Counter Insurgency Force (CIF) of West Bengal Police. These changes come amidst a crackdown on illegal activities and investigations involving Trinamool Congress leaders facing allegations of corruption and extortion.
