A tragic road accident occurred in Devprayag, Uttarakhand, when a vehicle carrying eight people veered off the road and plunged nearly 200 meters into a deep gorge near Ganga Hotel Darshan. The incident caused panic in the area, leading to a swift response from rescue agencies.
Upon receiving news of the accident, teams from the police, Revenue Department, and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) rushed to the scene to initiate a search and rescue operation. The vehicle, with registration number UK 08 TA 5433, was en route to Haridwar when it lost control and fell into the gorge. All occupants, including the driver, are said to be from Rajasthan.
One injured person has been rescued and taken to Srinagar for medical treatment, while efforts are ongoing to locate and evacuate the remaining passengers. Despite the challenging terrain and the depth of the gorge, rescue teams have recovered three bodies and are using rafting teams to transport them to the roadside.
SDRF teams from Srinagar, Vyasi, and Dhalwala were promptly deployed after the incident. The rescue operation, complicated by the vehicle’s inaccessible location, involved immediate action by a six-member SDRF team from the Vyasi unit. Local authorities, including the Devprayag Police Station and revenue officials, are also on-site assisting in the operation.
A comprehensive assessment of the accident is underway to determine the condition of all passengers. Rescue teams are working diligently to locate any missing occupants and retrieve the vehicle, with the administration ensuring the deployment of all necessary resources for the mission. Further updates are expected upon completion of the operation.
The recent incident follows another tragic road accident in Uttarakhand on May 30, where three individuals lost their lives and five were injured after a car skidded off the Pali Link Road in Rudraprayag district, falling into a deep gorge. SDRF teams conducted a challenging rescue operation to evacuate the injured and recover the deceased.
