Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim expressed Malaysia’s commitment to enhancing its positive relationship with India for the benefit of both nations and regional stability. During a farewell visit from India’s High Commissioner to Malaysia, BN Reddy, Ibrahim emphasized the importance of strengthening bilateral ties across various sectors such as trade, digital technology, artificial intelligence, food security, education, and people-to-people relations. He highlighted the significant progress in bilateral trade, reaching USD18.59 billion in 2025, with India being Malaysia’s largest trading partner in South Asia.
Cooperation between Malaysia and India in digital and emerging technology sectors has seen notable advancements through recent meetings like the Malaysia–India Digital Council (MIDC) Meeting and the MY–India AI Conclave in Kuala Lumpur. Ibrahim reiterated Malaysia’s commitment to fostering a strong relationship with India for mutual benefit and inclusive prosperity for both countries. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Malaysia earlier this year also focused on reviewing the implementation of the India-Malaysia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, emphasizing cooperation in various fields such as trade, infrastructure, energy, IT, biotechnology, security, defense, AI, and digital technologies.
The interactions between the two countries have been characterized by a long-standing friendship and mutual respect, with shared aspirations for the future. Both leaders expressed optimism that the friendship between India and Malaysia will continue to thrive based on their historical ties and common goals.
