More than 200 attackers were killed in targeted airstrikes conducted by the Malian armed forces on Friday morning, as reported by Mali’s state television on Saturday. The strikes were aimed at a large group of armed militants who had crossed from a neighboring area and were allegedly planning new attacks. The operation also resulted in the destruction of four pickup trucks with heavy weapons and over 60 motorcycles, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces.
The Malian army, based on an initial assessment, has stated its commitment to pursuing armed militant groups throughout the country. In a separate incident on April 26, the army announced the elimination of over 100 terrorists in the western Koulikoro region. Following terrorist attacks on Saturday, Malian air assets identified a group of motorcycles heading towards a hideout in the Koulikoro region, resulting in airstrikes that killed more than 100 terrorists and disrupted their logistics.
Armed terrorist groups carried out coordinated attacks on various cities in Mali on April 25, including an assault on General Sadio Camara’s residence near Bamako, where the Defence Minister and his wife lost their lives. The government of Mali confirmed the attacks on multiple locations, such as Kati, Sevare, Gao, Kidal, and the capital, Bamako. India strongly denounced these attacks and expressed condolences for General Sadio Camara’s passing on April 28.
