Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee has urgently gathered all party councillors from Kolkata Municipal Corporation due to repeated notices sent to her nephew Abhishek Banerjee’s properties. The party is concerned about the independent actions of the KMC bureaucratic setup, which they believe is disregarding elected officials. The meeting aims to address this evolving situation.
A party councillor, speaking anonymously, revealed that the KMC board, led by Trinamool Congress, is facing issues with the Municipal Affairs & Urban Development Department. The Municipal Commissioner canceled a scheduled session, and the municipal administration is allegedly following state government directives independently. Mamata Banerjee is set to discuss strategies with party councillors later in the day.
Recently, the KMC initiated investigations into properties linked to Abhishek Banerjee, serving notices under the KMC Act 1980 to 17 such properties. Notably, two residences of Abhishek Banerjee are under scrutiny within the KMC’s jurisdiction. Mayor Firhad Hakim expressed unawareness of these actions, stating that the municipal commission can issue notices without his knowledge.
A fresh controversy arose over Abhishek Banerjee’s family residence, with the KMC’s Assessor-Collector issuing a notice regarding a specific property. The property, initially owned by a company later renamed, faced allegations of improper assessment despite structural changes. The situation has sparked political and administrative debates in Kolkata.
