Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee has called for a meeting with the party’s 80 elected legislators to strategize as the principal opposition in West Bengal. The meeting, which includes party member Abhishek Banerjee, aims to address challenges faced by Trinamool Congress-controlled civic bodies amid bureaucratic issues. Notably, notices have been issued to properties linked to Abhishek Banerjee within the Kolkata Municipal Corporation jurisdiction.
The Kolkata Municipal Corporation, under Mayor Firhad Hakim, has served notices to 17 properties owned by Abhishek Banerjee. This action follows remarks by Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari hinting at inquiries into properties associated with a corporate entity reportedly linked to Banerjee. Adhikari, without directly naming Banerjee, emphasized the government’s commitment to combat corruption from the previous administration.
Furthermore, Chief Minister Adhikari announced the establishment of two probe commissions, led by retired judges, to investigate institutional corruption and crimes against women. Justice Biswajit Basu will head the committee probing institutional corruption, while Justice Samapti Chattopadhyay will lead the investigation into crimes against women. These commissions are set to commence operations in June, as confirmed by the Chief Minister.
