The Delhi Police have apprehended a 47-year-old man named Srinivas Louis from Mysuru, Karnataka, for allegedly sending over 1,000 hoax threat messages to various important institutions nationwide. This arrest followed a joint operation by the Delhi Police and local authorities in Mysuru. The threats targeted institutions like courts, government offices, and educational establishments, causing security alerts and evacuations.
Several well-known institutions, including the Delhi High Court, Delhi Assembly, and multiple schools and government offices, received these hoax bomb threats in recent weeks. Despite the widespread panic and security measures taken, all threats were confirmed to be false alarms. Authorities are currently investigating the motive behind these threats and whether the accused acted alone in sending them.
Hoax threats through calls and messages have become a common occurrence, disrupting the normal operations of organizations like schools and courts. Incidents like the recent bomb threat emails received by banks and schools in Delhi on March 2 have led to increased security measures and checks by authorities. The Delhi Fire Services were involved in responding to these threats promptly.
Such hoax incidents are not limited to Delhi alone. For instance, St Xavier’s College in Mahim, Mumbai, received a bomb threat on March 17, which was later deemed a false alarm. Investigations are ongoing to determine the source of the threat. Similarly, in December last year, various courts in Mumbai, including the Bombay High Court, faced similar bomb threats, resulting in evacuations and heightened security measures.
