A middle-aged man has been apprehended for allegedly sexually assaulting a three-year-old girl in Beliaghata, North 24 Parganas district. The incident took place near the Beleghata Chaul Patti railway bridge. The victim is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital.
Sealdah Government Railway Police (GRP) has launched an investigation into the matter. According to reports from residents and police sources, the child, residing near the railway tracks, was playing in the vicinity on Saturday evening. Subsequently, the man, feigning affection, lured the child away to a dark area close to the railway track, causing her distress.
Upon hearing the child’s cries, locals intervened as the man attempted to flee upon their arrival. The child was discovered near the railway tracks with injuries to her private parts. She was swiftly taken to a nearby hospital for medical attention. Following the incident, the family of the child reported the matter to the Beliaghata police station.
The police conducted a thorough investigation and determined that the incident fell under the jurisdiction of the Government Railway Police (GRP). Consequently, the accused was arrested by the Beliaghata Police and handed over to the GRP. Legal proceedings will be initiated under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012 (POCSO), and the arrested individual will be presented before the Sealdah court for further action.
