Uttar Pradesh Police, in collaboration with Kolkata Police, apprehended a man in Kolkata after 11 years, accused of abducting a minor girl from Uttar Pradesh and residing there with her. The arrest, made recently, involves the man being taken back to Uttar Pradesh by the UP Police for legal proceedings.
The man reportedly married the minor girl in 2015 and brought her to Kolkata after allegedly abducting her from Khoda Colony in Uttar Pradesh. Despite the girl’s family filing a complaint against him for sexual assault and abduction, the man evaded police summons for over a decade.
Following a joint operation with Kolkata Police in the Tangra area, the Khoda Police Station officers arrested the man, identified as Ranjit Singh, who had fled with the minor girl to Kolkata after developing a relationship with her during their travels to and from Uttar Pradesh.
Ranjit had been living in hiding with his wife, who was a minor at the time of their marriage, and their child, who was enrolled in school. Despite Ranjit’s claims of a happy family life and attempts to evade authorities by moving across states, the police arrested him based on an arrest warrant issued by the Ghaziabad court.
