A man linked to the Karni Sena was apprehended in Kota, Rajasthan, after a video of him threatening to kill Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, circulated widely. The authorities acted swiftly upon the video’s dissemination, initiating an investigation into the matter.
Raja Amera, who allegedly threatened to harm Congress MPs and Rahul Gandhi in the video, was taken into custody by the Kota police. Responding promptly to the surfaced clip, law enforcement detained him for questioning.
Following his arrest, Raja Amera disclaimed any knowledge of the viral video, asserting that opposition parties had conspired against him by creating a fake ID in his name. Describing himself as a ‘Sanatani Hindu,’ he expressed his desire for India to transform into a Hindu nation.
The police disclosed receiving a video where a young man, claiming affiliation with the Karni Sena, mentioned an incident in Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla’s chamber. Acting on the video content, authorities promptly detained him, with the interrogation process currently underway.
In the video, the individual accused 25 opposition MPs of misconduct with Om Birla, holding Rahul Gandhi accountable. He issued a warning that any recurrence of such behavior would lead to the vandalization of the MPs’ residences and an attack on Rahul Gandhi at his home. He also declared his readiness to face imprisonment for carrying out the threat.
The incident has heightened political tensions in the state, with Rajasthan Congress chief Govind Singh Dotasara condemning the open threats against Rahul Gandhi. He characterized such threats as indicative of a dangerous mindset, drawing parallels to the ideology that inspired Nathuram Godse, and accused the BJP-RSS of promoting radical extremism by labeling dissent as “anti-national,” fostering an environment conducive to violence.
