Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh highlighted the growing challenges in the state’s power sector due to the increasing population and the rise in electricity consumers, ranging from households to businesses. He emphasized the crucial role of electricity in modern society for socio-economic development. The Manipur Electricity Regulatory Commission (MnERC) celebrated its first Foundation Day, attended by the Chief Minister, Governor, and senior officials.

Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla emphasized the transformation of electricity into a key investment and business avenue, stressing the importance of robust regulation to protect consumer interests. Chief Minister Khemchand Singh expressed confidence in MnERC’s initiatives for the benefit of electricity consumers and pledged government support for strengthening the power sector. Governor Bhalla commended the Commission’s efforts in ensuring transparent, efficient, and consumer-centric power supply for Manipur’s economic progress and people’s well-being.

The Governor highlighted the essential role of electricity in modern development and the Commission’s contribution to national sustainable development goals. MnERC, established under the Electricity Act, 2003, regulates tariffs, issues licenses, promotes renewable energy, and ensures the quality and reliability of electricity services in Manipur. The celebration was attended by Chief Secretary Puneet Kumar Goel, MnERC Chairperson Soubam Ibopishak Singh, and other dignitaries.
